About Intelligent Plastic

Intelligent Plastic Pty Ltd (IPPL) is a technology development firm that holds patents for methods of measuring and monitoring natural and synthetic chemicals & biological activities. These measurements can be used as a direct and precise measure of product integrity.  This fundamental invention enables the user to be assured of product quality by way of continuous monitoring of useful life or to enable risk avoidance /benefit assessment.

IPPL products are low cost labels that can be incorporated into any packaging or affixed to virtually any surface or product. They are intelligent because they measure and interpret biochemical activity on or around the product they are attached to or incorporated in. They directly measure the matter of concern: freshness, toxicity, health risk, benefit or diagnostic assessment.  The uniqueness of the technology is based on patented methods of:

  1. measuring the markers of biochemical activity that are directly associated with degradation or risk / benefit relevant to the user.  By measuring continuous change, at the molecular or cellular level, the technology enables precise quantification that is a more accurate and reliable basis for risk / benefit assessment.
  2. a non-invasive scavenging mechanism that can be incorporated into a low cost label or printed onto a package. Because the mechanism is engineered to provide continuous measures of biochemical activity it delivers more precise and functional reporting (as opposed to threshold based measures) and yet can be delivered at very low cost.
  3. generating progress reports that are easily understood by non-technical people (consumers or intermediaries) and can be incorporated into remote monitoring by way of RFID devices.

IPPL patents capture these principles at a fundamental level. They define a wide range of possible applications.

IPPL products provide the user with a simple to read and low cost method of monitoring the behavior of a product throughout its life cycle – from production to consumption or any subset therein.  They are therefore relevant to all of the participants in the supply chain:

  • Producers - thru-life quality assurance and shipment readiness
  • Supply Chain Operators - supply chain integrity monitoring
  • Retailers - shelf readiness and waste management
  • End Users - product quality assurance

The technology can be configured to serve the particular needs of each participant in the supply chain at low cost. IPPL products will therefore deliver increased profits to the user and product quality assurance to the consumer.
